Photomack – George Empson
Welcome to Photomack. This site is dedicated to the beautiful scenery and other related events that make up the High Country area around Lake Tekapo in the Mackenzie Basin of the Central South Island of New Zealand.
The site features the work of internationally acclaimed George Empson, who has explored and photographed the unique Mackenzie basin since being given his first Kodak 127 on his 10th birthday.
In the decades since, George has perused a lifelong passion of outdoor and landscape photography around his home town of Lake Tekapo and surrounds, capturing the unique mood that is the Mackenzie, nestled beneath the star-studded sky of the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky reserve and seemingly endless Southern Alps.
The name – George Empson – may resonate with many of you without realising the connection, from his wonderful photographs featured regularly on The Weather following TVNZ 1 evening news.
Having dedicated much of his life to the preservation and photographic record of this vibrantly changing landscape, the image galleries are available to view and you’re invited to email George regarding his work.
