We have put together some often asked FAQ’s. We recommend downloading the Entry Form and Guidelines PDF, coming along to one of the BEA workshops or just give us a call.

This event will run irrespective of COVID Alert Levels.

Many previous entrants have remarked on the simplicity and the value of the entry process for the following reasons:

  • An opportunity to gain exposure and recognition whilst celebrating business excellence.
  • An opportunity to focus on your business by identifying your core strengths, competitive advantages, and any areas for further improvement.
  • An opportunity to review and document your achievements and milestones over the previous calendar year and plans for the future.
  • An opportunity to create motivation, enthusiasm, and pride for the organisation by engaging your team in the entry process.
  • Entrants benefit from significant local media coverage, with category and supreme winners able to leverage their success in on-going advertising and communications activity well past the immediate event period.
  • Showcases your services and products to a wider audience.

Entries must be submitted by 3pm on Friday April 9th 2021.

No, all businesses and not-for-profit organisations can enter themselves.

If you nominate a business or social enterprise, we will make contact with them to inform them they have been nominated and send them the entry form to fill out. Nominations are confidential, but you are welcome to let the organisation know you’ve made the nomination and encourage them to enter.

Entrants can choose to enter one category and up to three special awards or choose to only enter the special awards. You do not need to enter a category in order to enter a special award. These are standalone awards.

  • Previous Supreme Winners of the Business Excellence Awards are not eligible to enter the Business Excellence Awards for two years following their win of the Supreme Award.
    (i.e. they may only enter in the third year following).
  • For the Special Awards entry – two previous wins creates a stand down period of two years.
  • Entries in the Special Awards are not eligible for the Supreme Award.

Many businesses will be eligible for multiple categories. You should choose the category that most suits the emphasis you wish to highlight in your entry.

If you enter a category you are not eligible to enter you may be asked to move to a suitable category.

No your entry should only include the information requested. Each section must be completed within the specified word limit. Additional information will be excluded from judging.

Entry is free and is open to all businesses in South Canterbury. Chamber members and Non Chamber members are all encouraged to attend. You will need to purchase your tickets to the Awards evening. Category finalists must be available to attend the Awards ceremony in Timaru on the evening of Friday 18 June 2021.

Following the judging process, finalists are announced on Friday May 14th 2021.
