When you experience it. You get it.
Stravon Safaris – What we do
We are a full service, hunting focused, tourism operation based out of Stravon™, a pristine wilderness property nestled in South Canterbury’s world renowned Hunters Hills, home to arguably the finest big game animals in New Zealand.
Stravon Safaris will personally arrange and guide you into the most remote yet beautiful corners of New Zealand. We have some of the friendliest, most knowledgeable and down to earth guides in the world so be prepared to make long-lasting memories, and a few mates along the way.
For the Hunter
Whether it be our Big Red or Whitebait Run package, when it comes to hunting, New Zealand’s majestic South Island holds some of the finest Big Game animals on earth and the game you’ll discover here at Stravon™ is of exceptional quality.
Ten exclusive hunting packages. More about Our Hunts
On these hunts you will experience once in a lifetime encounters with incredible wildlife that is set in a backdrop that almost appears tailor made, not only for you, but for the animals themselves. It is as near-perfect a ‘hunting scene’ as you will find and a big reason why Stravon™ and the Southern Alps are so revered.
Our main trophy period is from March to September. The ‘Roar’ is in full swing and the stags with their impressive antlers are out chasing the hinds during March and April.
For the Angler – An Anglers El Dorado
New Zealand holds some of the last examples of true wilderness fishing in an environment unspoiled by man. Fish the crystal clear spring creeks for those heavy fish that await you, or have a crack at the high country lakes, free stone streams or the glacier fed mountain rivers that play home to some of New Zealand’s largest trout and salmon.
For the Photographer – Infocus
Simply put, New Zealand is a magical place to photograph or film. It is an area where snow-capped mountains, rivers of ice, deep lakes, the nights sky, unbroken forests and tussock grasslands produce a untouched landscape of exceptional beauty.
Some of this planets best examples of wildlife and fauna exist here and the opportunities to capture these once in a lifetime images will present themselves around literally every corner.
You Can Check Out, But You’ll Never Leave
Our Alpine Lodge at Stravon, aptly named “Headquarters” is from a time long since gone. Originally built in 1895 at the Homestead it was then transported by horseback to its present location in the 1930’s. In keeping with its proud history, the lodge has been pretty much left to how it was from all those years ago, other than a few tweaks here and there to satisfy the 21st century explorer.
Your Experience is Assured
2014 saw Stravon become the first and only hunting provider to be endorsed by the New Zealand government. Qualmark Enviro Gold and Qualmark Endorsed Visitor Activity awards.
