Industrial zones span multiple locations in South Canterbury, each with its own distinct advantages supported by strong industry hubs and organisations. Examples include Washdyke on Timaru’s northern boundary adjacent to State Highway 1, with access to the main trunk railway line where many large scale manufacturing and processing plants are located; Timaru’s PrimePort industrial area has easy access to road and rail links, a perfect location for consolidating and/or distribution; On the southern boundary of Timaru is Redruth, a long established industrial area that typically has lower costs for land/lease adjacent to Stage Highway 1; Outlying Waimate, Temuka and Geraldine have excellent areas of commercial and industrial land where several large national and international businesses have invested for manufacturing and distribution purposes.
