The NZ Raptor Trust is a charitable trust, established in 2016 to care for sick, injured and orphaned birds of prey.

The Trust works in conjunction with the local Department of Conservation team and Timaru’s Vetlife. Our primary goals are to rescue, rehabilitate and release raptors. Our secondary goals are to educate the community on these marvelous birds. The majority of the birds are held at our facility in Redruth, Timaru. Here, they are cared for by a small, dedicated group of volunteers. We are New Zealand’s southern-most dedicated Raptor Rehabilitation Facility.

The Raptor Experience – Hold a raptor and learn about why they are important, how to help them

This is an educational and hands on encounter with two of New Zealand’s Raptors – The New Zealand Kahu or Harrier Hawk and the Little Owl. Learn about the lives of our native raptor birds, their ways of hunting, what they feed on, dangers to their safety and their cultural significance. This is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with these magnificent birds under the guidance of our experienced handler. An excellent gift for those hard to buy for people, or a unique encounter for friends and family or corporate event. Book here
