Join us for a special Eco Talk celebrating the Black Stilt / Kakī – one of Aotearoa’s rarest and most treasured taonga species, found ONLY right here in South Canterbury.

Taleigha from the Kakī Recovery Programme, will share insights into the captive breeding side, and Claudia, who will bring the wild story to life, highlighting the challenges and successes of protecting kakī in their natural habitat.

We’re also teaming up with Predator Free Timaru, who will have discounted traps available on the night – giving you a practical way to support Predator Free 2050 and help protect not just kakī, but all of our precious taonga species.

Come along and learn about the unique world of kakī conservation – think kakī boot camp, tasty beef hearts, colourful leg bands, and more!

About Eco Talks

This event is part of the South Canterbury Eco Centre’s monthly Eco Talks series. During the first week of most months, we host a guest presenter followed by supper and the chance to connect with others in the community.
